Transforming Our Public Space

Park(ing) Day began with the simple idea of using a piece of our public space differently; converting a parking stall into a public park for a day. The idea caught on and now teams across the world celebrate this transformative spirit annually.

2021 Parking Day

Bringing Us Together

In 2021, our team occupied a parking stall near the Hawaii State Capitol and Iolani Palace, engaging with various state workers and visitors. Our designers fabricated a geometric bench that will be featured in the entry waiting space of our office. The modular design not only serves as an efficient way of transporting this unique piece of furniture but it shows that no matter our differences, we can come together. We enjoyed a day of safe, socially distanced conversation with the Honolulu Downtown community about how we can alter and improve our urban fabric. Read more about our design inspiration here!

A Bold Statement

In 2015, a team constructed a hexagonal screen wall out of salvaged cardboard to create a sheltered outdoor seating area outside Paiko. Tables, chairs and furnishings donated by Paiko for the day.

A Night on the Town

In 2016 a team occupied two parking stalls in front of Paiko for the day creating an outdoor seating area framed by arching columns fabricated from salvaged plywood, transparent corrugated sheets and glow sticks.
